A) Changelog - top
Version 1.0
(6th March, 2014)
B) Theme Installation - top
- Extract the contents of the ZIP file you have downloaded to somewhere convenient such as your desktop.
- Login to your Wordpress administration area.
- Select 'Themes' within the 'Appearance' admin menu.
- Click the 'Install Themes' tab located at the top of the page.
- Select the 'Upload' option to enable the file browser.
- Using the file browser, browse to the folder you just created by extracting the ZIP file.
- Locate 'wpmetro.zip' from within the 'Theme' folder and begin uploading.
- Once uploaded, you can go ahead and activate the theme.
- Configure the theme for use by visiting the 'Theme Options' page under the 'Appearance' menu.
C) Dummy Contents - top
- Login to your Wordpress administration area and click 'Import' under the 'Tools' menu.
- If this is a fresh installation of Wordpress you'll need to install the importer tool first. Simply click the 'Wordpress' link, followed by the red 'Install Now' button to proceed with the installation, activate the plugin.
- Click 'Import' under the 'Tools' menu.
- Browse to the XML files we supplied you with (within 'XML' folder).
- Follow on-screen prompts and import everything from the file.
- Again, if this is a fresh installation of Wordpress, you'll want to remove the default 'Hello World' post also.
D) Theme Options Page - top
- Click 'Theme Options' under the 'Appearance' menu.
- Visit each sub-section and configure as desired, take note of the accompanying usage text next to each option.
- Hit the 'Save Changes' button when done.
E) Featured Images - top
- Open or create a post via the 'Posts' menu.
- Find the 'Featured Image' block within the sidebar (default position).
- Click the 'Set featured image' link to open the file browser window.
- Drag & drop your chosen image onto the window to begin uploading (or select a previous image from your library).
- Click the blue 'Set featured image' button to confirm your chosen image.
- For best results, use images measuring 600*450px or similar.
F) Post Options & Formats - top
There are several post options available to you when writing/editing a post that will help you enhance your content aswell as adding additional information & media to a post using the built-in 'Custom Fields' feature within Wordpress.
There are 3 custom fields available to you, 'youtube', 'soundcloud' and 'subtitle', all of which are case-sensitive (use lowercase letters only).
YouTube Video
- Create a new, or edit an existing, post from the 'Posts' admin menu.
- Create a custom field called 'youtube' and paste the 'watch code' of any YouTube video you wish into the 'value' field.
- A videos 'watch code' can be taken from the URL of any existing YouTube video.
- Click the small 'update' button located below the custom field you just added.
- Select the 'Video' post format option from the sidebar to tell Wordpress that this is a video post.
- Click the blue 'Update/Publish' button.
SoundCloud Audio
- Create a new, or edit an existing, post from the 'Posts' admin menu.
- Create a custom field called 'soundcloud' and paste the 'track ID code' of any SoundCloud audio you wish into the 'value' field.
- The track ID code can be taken from a tracks embed code, simply select any track and click the 'Share' button, followed by the 'Embed' tab to reveal an iframe embed code that contains the 8-digit track ID number.
- Click the small 'update' button located below the custom field you just added.
- Select the 'Audio' post format option from the sidebar to tell Wordpress that this is an audio post.
- Click the blue 'Update/Publish' button.
Post Sub-Title
- Create a new, or edit an existing, post from the 'Posts' admin menu.
- Create a custom field called 'subtitle' and paste any amount of text you wish into the 'value' field.
- Click the small 'update' button located below the custom field you just added.
- Click the blue 'Update/Publish' button.
Post Format Effects
The effects of using certain post formats is explained below:
- Videos will only appear within a post if the Video post format is used.
- Audio will only appear within a post if the Audio post format is used.
- Featured images will not be shown within a post if the Gallery post format is used.
- If no post format is used, Featured images will be displayed as normal.
- Click 'Menus' under the 'Appearance' menu.
- Create a menu and place your chosen links wherever you please.
- Hit the 'Save Menu' button to confirm your menu.
- Click 'Manage Locations' tab at the top of the screen.
- Select your chosen menu from the dropdown list.
- Click 'Save Changes' button to confirm your changes.
H) Using Shortcodes - top
- Open or create a post via the 'Posts' menu.
- Within your post text use any of the following shortcodes.
- [red] [blue] [green] [orange] [purple] [leftfloat] [rightfloat]
I) Custom Logo - top
- Click 'Logo' under the 'Appearance' menu.
- Click 'Upload Logo' button to open the image browser window.
- Drag & drop your chosen image onto the window to begin uploading (or select a previous image from your library).
- Click 'Use as Logo' button to confirm your image choice.
- For best results use rectangular images.
J) Recommended Plugins - top
There are some plugins that are fully-supported (and recommended) by this theme, namely:
- WP Days Ago (Changes post dates to X Days Ago)
- JetPack (Commenting System, Social Buttons, Full-Screen Image Galleries, and Related Posts)
- Force Regenerate Thumbnails (Regenerates featured images to ensure correct display on mobile devices)
